Second Chance is the fourth novel from L.B. Dunbar’s fantastic over 40 romance collection and, once again, she has completely outdone herself. The story of Denton and Mati grasped ahold of my heart right from the start and hung on tight right to the very end.
When Denton disappeared 27 years ago, he broke Mati’s heart. But despite their years of separation, the love they felt for each other always remained in their hearts. And from the moment Denton finally returns home and their eyes meet again, despite the long passage of time, the sparks resume between their souls and reignite the passions between them that were never consummated. But will the shadows and secrets of the past ever dim in Mati’s heart and allow her to experience the love in Denton’s arms that they both always secretly dreamed of?
Each time I pick up a new story from Ms. Dunbar, I fall in love with her characters all over again. Well, Denton and Mati are no exception. In spite of them both finding and living their lives for many years without each other, from the moment their hearts return to the same space in time, their spirits reconnect as if they had never been apart. It was fun to “see” the return of a few of her characters from the past and also meet some new and interesting ones as well. Second Chance is another must read from L.B. Dunbar which will make your heart flutter over and over again.
As an aside: I’ve seen some other reviews that question the validity of two mature adults acting like teenagers when they reunite making their story seem unbelievable. However, I have never felt that way with any of the stories from Ms. Dunbar’s over 40 series. In fact, I truly believe that when you have two passionate souls in love, they will always remain forever young, despite the years of life that have passed.
